Statewide interest prompts Broadband Illinois to allow additional week to apply for funding
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, September 6, 2012 – The deadline to apply to the
Illinois Broadband Innovation Fund has been
extended to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.
The high-speed internet adoption and usage grant program has generated statewide interest, with hundreds attending a series of stakeholder meetings and webinars hosted by Broadband Illinois. Up to $500,000 will be awarded to private, public, and non-profit entities that submit creative proposals to improve the quality of life in their region through broadband usage.
"We've been heartened by the hundreds of individuals who have participated in and expressed an interest in learning more about the Illinois Broadband Innovation Fund, which was announced on Thursday, August 16," said Drew Clark, Executive Director of the Partnership for a Connected Illinois. "As our team conducted the eight-city Broadband Innovation Tour, we've fielded scores of questions about this exciting opportunity to promote broadband usage. This fund will make an impact in unleashing the creativity of our innovators and entrepreneurs by identifying solutions to promote job creation, health care, education, energy conservation and other core purposes identified as part of the National Broadband Plan.”
Broadband Illinois announced the extension at today’s question and answer webinar. A full recording of this session, including presentation slides and an updated timeline, will be posted at
