Cell One gets new tower in Mattoon

MATTOON — Service for Cellular One customers in the Mattoon area has been enhanced with the recent addition of another cellular tower.

A Cellular One press release reported that the new tower was turned on in Mattoon last week and enhances cellular service throughout the Mattoon area.

The addition of the Mattoon tower is part of a $14 million upgrade to the company’s network that is providing 4G data speeds and enhanced service options throughout much of Cellular One’s service area.

“Cellular One has made this major financial commitment to ensure that we will continue to provide the highest quality service and latest technologies to our customers,” said Cassy Carter, chief executive officer and general manager of Cellular One of East Central Illinois.

Cellular One is a privately-owned, locally-operated wireless carrier in East Central Illinois that provides nationwide service. The company has been in operation since 1991 and serves residents in Coles, Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland and Vermilion counties.

Local Cellular One stores are located at 1005 Charleston Ave. in the Mattoon Marketplace retail center in Mattoon and at 433 W. Lincoln Ave. in Charleston.
