Laura Zaremba

Director of the Illinois Office of Health Information Technology (OHIT)

Zaremba serves as the Director of the Illinois Office of Health Information Technology (OHIT).  In that capacity, she is leading the implementation state’s health information technology initiatives.  The mission of OHIT is to support the use of health information technology in Illinois to improve health outcomes, increase care coordination and contain costs.  She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Rural Health Net and the Governor’s Health Care Reform Implementation Council.

Zaremba previously served as Deputy Director for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.  In that capacity, she directed the development and implementation of major agency initiatives, with an emphasis on technology-driven solutions. 

Prior to joining Healthcare and Family Services, Zaremba served in posts as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Local Government during her eight-year tenure with the Illinois Office of the Comptroller, the State’s chief fiscal office.  She began her career in health care in 1994 with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, where she served as a state government affairs associate, focusing on state statutory and regulatory scope of practice and reimbursement issues for advanced practiced nurses.   She holds a B.A. and M.A. in political science from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and lives in Chicago.
